My Teaching Style

While I trained in both Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga, my teaching experience thus far has been based in Vinyasa--I have consistently taught heated power flow and candlelight flow classes, which has taught me how to move between dynamic, active classes and cooling, restorative classes. I love the way in which Vinayasa allows each teacher to bring their imagination and intuition into the creation of a flow. I quickly learned that intuition is essential to guiding a successful class, as it is important to tune into the energy of each group in order to provide them with the experience they need in that specific moment.

Yoga is the first practice that came along in my life which gifted me with the ability to love and appreciate body in a way that I never had before. In the midst of a society which pushes us more often than not to be critical of our bodies, I whole heartedly believe in the healing power of yoga to change our relationships with the incredible bodies that we inhabit. Therefore, I have become increasingly passionate about the concepts of inclusivity, accessibility and body positivity and work to incorporate this into each and every class that I teach. Yoga is a practice that is truly meant for all bodies, and I believe in embracing the diversity of ways in which we express ourselves on our mats.

One of the major lessons I learned from my traninig in India is that yoga is so much more than just the asana practice--it is a way of life which connects us to ourselves and to each other. In my classes, you can expect other practices such as pranayama and meditation as well as a continued focus on the mind-body connection throughout. It is my goal in each of my classes to cultivate what I like to call empowered relaxation. The idea behind this is that often times in our society we are led to feel guilty about finding time for ourselves to relax and step away--it seems like a nice idea, but more often a luxury only accessible to some. Therefore, I aim for my class to provide a space that promotes shame-free self-care, that gives my fellow yogis the chance to move their bodies and feel empowered by their decision to show up on their mat. I want them to be able to fully embrace the new sensations that their practice brings forth in their body and mind. I want us to unapologetically take care of ourselves, because only then can we have the abundance of energy to help others.

I hope to flow with you!
